Digital Graphs

Using our Chromebooks we made digital graphs using fictitious information. Here are the Graphs I made. The first graph to the right is about peoples favourite fast food. The one in the middle is about peoples favourite ice cream. The last one at the bottom is about the population of Europe, America, France, Asia and the World.

Wednesday 10 December 2014

There I was walking down to the bench with my friends at MERC in Long Bay. We met up with the instructors that were taking us out to go kayaking and they explained to us what we needed and what it was for. After the quick explanation we went to go and get our tight black wetsuits that keep us warm and our thick floatable Life Jackets.

As we finished putting our Equipment on and retrieved our multi - coloured paddles we headed down to the beach to learn to reverse, turn and row. We also learnt an extra move. Instead of having to bend over to get the paddle we put the paddle on our foot, flick it up and then catch it.

After the practice we picked up our kayaks and took it to the water and placed half of it in the water. The instructor was picking out people to get into the water and kayak. My friend and I were eager to get into the water and we were at the end of the line. As we quickly got into the water when we were chosen  we shot of as fast as we could to catch up with the others.

Soon after we shot of from the beach we were in front of everyone. and following the instructor. Along the way the instructor pointed out a few Places. It was a sunny day so we could see all the places that we were shown. We continued following the instructor and we went over a rocky area. I was cruising along and then it happened. I wasn't cruising anymore I was Running over rocks that were beneath the ocean that I couldn't see. It jolted here and there as I tried to navigate my way around them. It was a jolty experience.

As we steer cleared of the rocks, I saw that the instructor was heading towards a place with no rocks. I thought finally no more jolting around in the water. But I just had to open my mouth. As I got to the so called clear area it was even worse. The water kept pushing us towards a reef. I have to say it was a cool reef. But it was really annoying. Every time I got stuck I had to push away using my paddle and it happened many many times.

After the hardship we faced of getting away from the reef it was time to go back. Once we got to shore I thought in my mind that was the most amazing experience I've ever had in the ocean. Kayaking was by far the best thing at MERC.

The Remarkable Chromebook

The Chromebook is a remarkable thing that should be counted as one of the wonders of the world.

Chromebooks are light and easy to carry. They can be taken everywhere and can be used on the plane as long as flight mode is on and the WiFi is off. It is useful in many ways, you can use it to search something up on the internet or use it to have an all out gaming competition with a friend.

Lets talk about the more technological side of it. With a Chromebook you can plug your headphones in and listen to what you were listening to if you were in library and if your phone is dead there is slot for your phone and a usb slot if you want to watch the movie. It is easy to connect to the internet but there will be a high chance of lag coming your way and gamers don’t worry there is a very high battery so if you're planning to have long gaming session then the Chromebook is for you.

If you have to do some work for school, college, university or work there are lots of things you can use. For example the google drive it can be used to make Presentations, Drawings, Documents, Spreadsheets and Forms. If your wanting to send something to the teacher or boss and you think you can't rely on good old paper to get what you want to its destination on time there is Google Gmail. Google Gmail allows you to send document presentations pictures/drawing etc.

With a Chromebook comes the chrome webstore. The webstore alows you to download many things. You can download games to play when your bored. There are backrounds and themes that are made to suit your liking. There are also work tools to help you with brainstorming and other helpful things. With some downloads there are rice and others are free.

Well that's all about the Chromebook. I highly recommend the Chromebook for those that are looking for a good long lasting computing device.

A Dog Ate My Homework

It all started last Friday. There I was stepping along confidently clutching my homework in my hand. I have to say I was pleased with it. I’d spent hours on it the night before. Then I heard it ! A low growl. It was that dog Bullet from across the street. He was a dangerous german shepherd with bloodshot eyes, razor sharp teeth and claws. His ears were pricked up and he was in a leaping stance ready to attack me. The dog and I are in slow motion, then he suddenly bursts toward me he was going to attack my homework. I quickly dodged right like I was playing with a bull. After I dodged I tried to run away and hide but the german shepherd chased me down with incredible speed and tackled be to the ground. He tried to bite my hand the one holding my homework but I pulled my arm just in time. I wrestled the dog for a while then ran to a near by tree to hide.

I looked at my homework it was crumpled but still readable. I checked if the dog was still there it was and it noticed me behind the tree it was sprinting now so I started to sprint as well. I tried to lose the dog but it was to fast I leaped over bushes climbed over fences and finally I got tired of running. I decided to use the rest of my strength to climb up a tree. But it was in vain I found out this dog can climb trees. I tried to get up. I jumped of the tree. I got down but the dog couldnt. I struck my fists up in triumph. But I felt sorry the bullet. I helped him down. He didn't chase me. He started licking me but I wasn't going to let him play Mr.Innocent. I grabbed a random stick and I threw it and the dog chased it.

That was the time I dashed for school and made my escape but the dog was fast it grabbed the stick and followed me I took the stick of him and threw it again and again and again but every few minutes I would see him behind me. It tailed me all the way to school. I went to class and I see him at the window he was drooling, he smashed the window and started eating everyone's homework. It was a disaster. The dog left with a lot of peoples homework. But the teacher was alright with it. Everyone was angry at me because they saw me lead the dog here. But that monster didn't get my work. Hahahahahaha (evil laugh). I handed it in and the teacher was very pleased. The End

Royal Fencible Caption

These Images Represent How The fencibles came to New Zealand

In Ireland there was a Potato Famine. The Potato Famine meant that Irish people couldn't grow there potatoes. One day they packed their belongings, food, potato seeds and their tools. They were promised a new beginning in New Zealand, they were going to be fencible colonists. They went on a boat and arrived in New Zealand. When they arrived in New Zealand they were shown to there cottages. They were angry, it was not the promised cottage. They went back to the people who sent them here and wanted money for a new cottage. They finally agreed to give them money. They built there cottages and planted all the potato seeds they had.

Fencible Cottage

It was the 25th of march 2014. Not one class, but every class in Saint Patrick’s School, visited the Stone Cottage.
Two people named Josephine and Angela, who volunteer their time to show people around the cottage on specific days for the public, gave up their time to show  and tell us about the cottage, artifacts and clothing within the cottage that represented one that would have housed a Fencible family. Josephine wore clothes that the woman would have wore in the 1840s. When we entered we went into a room with paintings, old chairs and bibles.  When we entered we were told about their 1 pound family bible and a over 100 year old hand sewn piece of furniture. In that room there were also pictures of a soldier and other soldiers that worked with him.

The next room I went into was a girls room. It was a very old looking room. It had 18th century dolls that looked scary because they had pale faces. In the room there was a lot of old girl clothes they would have worn in there time. One of the dresses were worn by three generations of babies. What I found interesting was that the sheets and blankets were all hand sewn.

My favorite room was the upstairs room on the right. I found that room the most interesting because of the old cameras, the old books and the gold rock. The old camera was really cool because they weren't like the cameras we use today at all. They were not powered with batteries.

The Fencible cottage was a really interesting place full of history.

Peoples Feelings

There is a huge variety of ways to express your feelings.

Anger is a feeling that can cause death or serious injury. Anger can be caused when a bully says unpleasant words or teases your family name. If someone is angry they will have eyes that are red like a bull, a face that’s as red as red paint and fists that are clenched tight like a anaconda constricting it’s prey.  Death can be caused if there really angry and have a fight to the death.

Happiness is a good feeling that can be triggered when a family member wins the lottery or if the your country is victorious in a sport. You know someones happy because they have a pleasant voice and a joyful smile. People don't always smile when they're happy sometimes they will be jumping.

Sadness is a feeling that can be caused when someone in your family passes away or when something precious (Like a item that’s been past down from generation to generation) to you is broken by bully. You can tell someone is sad because they usually have sniffles when they talk and tears streaming down from the persons eyes or they could be running away from a bully.

Scared is a feeling that can bring happiness or death. Death can be caused when someone is playing hide and seek in the forest and the person finding scares a person hiding of the cliff. Happiness can happen when people play a prank and scare someone and then laugh about it. Being scared is a good feeling and a bad feeling.

Feeling’s can be different for different people that are different shapes, sizes and culture.

Saint Patrick's Day

Saint Patrick’s Day is a very special day for Saint Patrick schools around the world.

Saint Patrick, our patron Saint was born in 387 A.D.in Britain. Saint . We celebrate his day and go to church to have special mass. Saint Patrick was all about faith his motto was who will separate us. In our  school we celebrate our Saint Patrick's Feast Day by going to church and playing activities that has something to do with Ireland and Saint Patrick. We are also put into groups that have Irish names, so we can play the activities. The names are Emeralds, Shamrocks, Limericks, Leprechauns, Donegals and Tipperary's.
The activities this year involved: painting a clover,  bowling, making book marks, tracing a clover and some other games. Through the activities the teachers gave us a certain score. The team with the highest score won. The Donegal's were the winners.

After the games we had a sausage sizzle. The delicious barbecued sausages were cooked by our school tuck shop boss Mrs Folden. After lunch we went to our classes to help clean up the mess left after the busy morning of activities.  It was fun cleaning up the class and talking about the fun across the day.

Today was truly a fun Saint Patrick’s  day because our teachers made fun activities and games for us to play.

Foundress of the Mission Sisters

We are learning to talk about Euphrasie - her values, attitudes, faith and practises

Positive, determination, humble
Courage, faith, righteousness, love, helpful, loyal kindness, commitment, loyal, respectful
Euphrasie Barbier was a nun that took a risk, determined to go to other countries and set up missionaries and preach the word of god. She had a strong faith with god and a lot of courage.

Euphrasie Barbier, founder of the mission sisters died in January 18th 1893 of old age.

Euphrasie Barbier  had a positive attitude even when people said she can’t do something, she never gave up. She was determined to create an order and help people around the world. She was a good role model for future mission sisters.

Euphrasie Barbier had a lot of courage to go to other countries and send her Sisters to places to help woman and young girls. In some of these places there was hardship and even war. Often their homes were destroyed. She helped the sick and the poor that were treated badly. Euphrasie Barbier had a very strong faith in God.

These actions demonstrate her courage faith and love for other people around the world that are homeless, sick and poor. Her dad made her a mission sister because her father went overseas helping people. When her dad told her that story that's what made her want to be a Mission Sister.
